Best Menswear was established in 1948. The company’s first store was in West Morland Street Dublin. At that time the company had a tailoring workshop above the store where suits were designed and hand made for the Dublin customers.
The company then expanded its retailing and opened its store at the corner of O’Connell and North Earl Street. The store at the time of opening created quite a stir in the centre of the city as the company choose to use the latest store design concepts not previously seen in the city.
As the company continued to expand it opened other retail branches in Dublin and opened a new manufacturing plant which at its peak employed 120 people making 120 suits per week. The company along with making suits for its own stores also manufactured for brands like Paul Smith, John Rocha, Paul Costelloe and Nigel Hall.
In 2001 the company was acquired by John Smith and David Jones. Since that time the company has expanded to 17 stores located across the country becoming the largest independent retailer of menswear in Ireland. The original company values of providing the customer with a wide selection of merchandise at a range of prices in comfortable stores and giving a personal service still drives the company forward today.
