Irish Retailer Spotlight: Camera Centre

Irish Retailer Spotlight: Camera CentreIrish Retailer Spotlight: Camera Centre

With level 5 restrictions now in place, it is more important than ever to support Irish businesses and encourage others to do the same. There are some fantastic Irish businesses that are part of the One4all family. Over the next few weeks, we will be shining a spotlight on them and their great products, touching on topics like the importance of shopping Irish and tips on how local businesses can thrive during a pandemic. Here, we chatted to Michelle Murphy, Accounts Manager at The Camera Centre.

Tell us about your business

The Camera Centre is a family run Irish business which has been at the heart of photography in Dublin for over 45 years. Specialising in camera equipment from top brands, the Camera Centre also stocks drones, e-scooters, fitness trackers and smart watches.

Have your operating hours been affected with level 5 restrictions?

As we’re an essential services provider, our stores on Grafton Street and in Blanchardstown remain open. Customers outside of Dublin can shop with us online.

How has the pandemic affected your business?

Unfortunately, we have had to close 2 stores due to the pandemic. We have also had to downsize our team which was difficult for us as a business. We supply equipment for An Garda Siochána and the HSE which has helped to keep us in business and our 2 stores open in Dublin.

Why should people shop at your store?

We’ve been in business for over 45 years and we’ve always adapted to changes in the industry and the economy. We stock a wide range of products and offer framing and printing services too. If people can’t travel to our stores, we encourage them to give us a call if they need assistance or they can always shop online with us via our website. We'd love to keep going for at least another 40 years!

Why is it so important to support Irish?

It’s so important to support Irish as it helps keep small Irish retailers in business, particularly at the moment. You’re not just supporting the store; you’re also helping to keep people in jobs and helping stores to provide their services to more people as a result.

What advice would you give to other local businesses at the moment?

Hold firm and help one another where they can. For example, if a customer is looking for an item that we don’t have in stock, we won’t hesitate to point them towards a store that has the item. It’s a challenging time for local business, but we will get through it if we stick together.

You can support Camera Centre by shopping on their online store.
